Homma Elementary, 5100 Brunswick Drive, Richmond

Tomekichi Homma Elementary is located at 5100 Brunswick Drive, Richmond and excels in balancing the literacy and numeracy educational objectives along with the social-emotional well-being of its students. Situated within a culturally diverse area, Homma Elementary is named after Tomekichi Homma who was one the first Japanese settlers in Canada. He left behind a legacy as a community leader and businessman who deeply impacted the fishing community in Richmond and fought for Japanese-Canadian suffrage until his last years, the goal of which was achieved in 1949, four years after Tomekichi’s passing. Today, Homma Elementary is leading the way in the exemplary upholding of its educational values and regularly innovates its strategic teaching plans. Constructed in the style of wood beams and arched rooflines in a style akin to Japanese architecture, there is also a natural courtyard located in its center where students can mingle and learn from each other during break times.

Attentiveness toward the continually evolving system of pedagogy is highly encouraged among the school’s administration and teaching staff. For example, during the return to classroom phase post-covid, staff recognized a heightened feeling of anxiety among students. To accommodate for the change, the educational path was shifted to include the social-emotional well-being of its learners. Emphasis on the holistic approach to education is evident at Homma Elementary. Keep Venda Living close at heart if you would like to send your children to an educational community that places concrete social and academic development in mind.
